Scott Sheets

About Scott

Scott spent thirty years in law enforcement before he ever wrote a mortgage. Twenty-seven of those years were in Park Forest, Illinois, and three were with the Lake County Coroner's Office in Indiana. He started originating in April of 2021.

He works Lake and Porter counties. His volume is an even split between FHA and conventional, and the piece he is known for is down payment assistance. The question he hears most is which DPA program a buyer qualifies for, and his approach is to open the file first and match the borrower to a program once he can actually see the numbers rather than guessing on a phone call.

Scott was born in Gary and has lived in the region most of his life, with a fifteen-year stretch in Illinois. He has been a volleyball official and coach for thirty years and is a licensed NCAA volleyball official.

The military and law enforcement background shows up in how he handles a file. He is detail oriented to a degree that borrowers notice, which is generally what you want from the person assembling your loan.

Check this officer before you call

Every mortgage loan originator in the United States carries their own NMLS number, and so does the company they work for. Both are public, and both are listed on this page. Looking someone up takes under a minute and it is the single best habit a borrower can have — with us, and with anyone else you are talking to.

Company: CME Lending Group LLC, doing business as The Mortgage Exchange, NMLS #1248883. In Indiana, The Mortgage Exchange, LLC. Verify the company at NMLS Consumer Access, or see our full licensing table.

No rates, payments or quotes appear on this page, and that is deliberate. Anything you are told about a rate or a payment should come to you in writing on a Loan Estimate after you apply — not from a marketing page. If you want real numbers for your situation, that is exactly the conversation to have with the officer above.

A licensed loan officer reviews what you send and tells you where you stand, in writing. No cost, and no obligation to go further.
